Coaching at The Partnerhood

One of the questions I hear most often is:

"What's the difference between coaching and therapy?"

It's a great question—and an important one.

While I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, The Partnerhood is a relationship coaching business, not a therapy practice.

The coaching services, workshops, courses, and resources offered through The Partnerhood are designed to help couples strengthen their relationship, improve communication, navigate life transitions, and intentionally grow together.

Coaching is educational, forward-focused, and action-oriented.

It is not psychotherapy or mental health treatment.

What Coaching Is

Relationship coaching is designed to help you:

• Strengthen communication

• Improve conflict management

• Reconnect with your partner

• Navigate transitions like marriage and parenthood

• Build healthier relationship habits

• Create goals for your relationship

• Develop practical skills you can use in everyday life

Coaching focuses on where you are today and where you'd like your relationship to go.

Together, we'll identify challenges, explore practical strategies, and create a plan that supports the relationship you're working to build.

What Coaching Is Not

Relationship coaching is not a substitute for therapy, counseling, psychological treatment, or medical care.

Coaching through The Partnerhood does not:

• Diagnose mental health conditions

• Treat mental illness

• Provide psychotherapy

• Replace counseling or psychiatric care

• Provide crisis intervention

• Establish a therapist-client relationship

Although Christie is a licensed therapist, participating in coaching through The Partnerhood does not create a therapeutic relationship.

When Therapy May Be the Better Fit

There are times when therapy is more appropriate than coaching.

If you or your partner are experiencing concerns such as:

• Significant depression or anxiety

• Trauma that requires clinical treatment

• Domestic violence or abuse

• Active addiction

• Suicidal thoughts

• Serious mental health concerns

therapy with a licensed mental health professional is the appropriate level of care.

If coaching is not the best fit for your situation, Christie may recommend seeking therapeutic support before beginning coaching.

Confidentiality

Your privacy is important.

Information shared during coaching sessions is treated with care and professionalism.

However, coaching communications are not protected by therapist-client privilege, and coaching services do not carry the same legal confidentiality requirements as psychotherapy.

For that reason, please avoid sharing information that you would only wish to disclose within a formal therapeutic relationship.

Emergencies

The Partnerhood does not provide emergency services or crisis intervention.

If you believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 immediately.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact your local emergency services, visit your nearest emergency room, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Results

Every relationship is unique.

While coaching provides education, guidance, encouragement, and practical tools, no specific outcome can be guaranteed.

Growth happens through consistent effort, honest communication, and a willingness to continue learning together.

My Commitment to You

My goal is never to tell you who's right or wrong.

My role is to help you better understand one another, strengthen your partnership, and develop practical tools that support your relationship long after our time together.

I believe every couple deserves support.

And I believe healthy relationships continue to grow when we intentionally care for them.

Because underneath every role you take on...

you're still partners.

Questions?

If you're unsure whether coaching or therapy is the best fit for your situation, I'd be happy to help you explore your options before we begin.
